This is one of the emails I got from my sisters today.  I don't know if I'd call "great" fun, but it was amusing for a few minutes.  This will explain the P.S. in the previous post.  Be sure to tell me what you came up with when you leave a comment!

I Feel Like Having A Pity Part

And You're Invited!!

I feel yucky today. I got an email from my sister Maxine a little bit ago, and I decided to complain to her.  Since I rarely complain about anything in my journal, I thought I'd share with you guys as well.  Aren't you glad?  It isn't much of a whine-fest, but since it's so unusual for me, here is a copy of the email I sent her.  Maybe it will amuse you.

I assume you got home okay?? lol

I meant to call Mom today, but I didn't.  I still don't feel well.  My sinus infection is better, I guess, but I'm still sneezing and having headaches.  I think I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor and have a full workup done; I haven't had everything tested and checked in a long time.  I am tired all the time.  And I do mean All. The. Time.  I can be up for a few hours and then I want to just sleep for a few hours, and so on.  So I finally figured maybe I'd better go make sure there's not some medical reason for it.  If it's just laziness, I can deal with that :)

Also, I've been having a lot of trouble with my left hip (hip, pelvic, hip socket, something like that), and I know it is stemming from my back, but I don't know if it's the sciatic nerve or a bad disc, or what.  But the pain is excruciating at times.  Sometimes if I've been standing for a while talking to someone all of the sudden the pain will hit me, and I'll have to hold back a gasp and a grimace.  I guess maybe I should start telling people what's wrong, so they don't think I'm demented!  Also I have bone spurs on my feet and ankles so that sometimes I literally cannot walk.  I can't put any weight on my foot when it does that.  It feels like I'm trying to put a raw stub on the floor and put all my weight on it.  Anyway, I'll probably tell my doc about all of that, too.  I don't know if a chiropractor could be of much use or not.  I think Thomas' insurance covers 16 or 18 visits a year, though, so I might as well take advantage of it.  I think my back would be in much worse shape if it wasn't for Thomas' massages.

I guess I'm done complaining.  I don't complain very often, but I have a headache right now, and I'm a little bit hyped up on coffee (for the headache), and you just happened to email me at the wrong time (for you, anyway), so you're taking the brunt of it.  I need to email P.J., too, so maybe I'll just copy this and send it to her as well.  That way she can get all the rich goodness out of my little complaining and whining session too.  We wouldn't want to leave her out, now would we?

On another subject entirely, my 11 year old is going to have to start shaving under her arms soon.  And I need to measure her to get a really accurate bra size so that I can buy her the right ones.  The little "A"s just aren't quite doing it any more.  She wants to shave her legs.  She just can't wait to shave her legs.  She actually does have a lot of hair on her legs, but she is still little-girl-looking enough to get away with not shaving.  I'm trying to convince her that she really doesn't want to start shaving her legs.  I say "Look at this", and shove a hairy appendage in her face.  "Just look at this!"  She obligingly examines the white, white leg covered with hair.  "See what happens when you start shaving?  You have to KEEP shaving!  It's a pain!  It's a chore!  It takes time away from important things  like reading or playing on the computer!  So you say to yourself, 'I'm going to skip shaving today.  I don't have to go anywhere.'  And day by day it just gets easier to put it off until tomorrow.  Until you look like this!"  Here I waggle my limb in front of her face again.  "Well," she says, "That's just because your legs are white.  If you were brown like me, they wouldn't show up as much."  I ignore her.  "And then, you have to run out to the store, and you're wearing shorts, and you forget that you haven't shaved in 29 days -"  ("29 days!" she gasps!) "- and of course you run into everyone you've ever known.  But does the embarrassment cause you to come home and immediately scrape a razor blade up your legs?  No!  That's how much fun it is!  You're willing to face the embarrassment and humiliation to avoid having to shave your legs."

I think MAYBE I can hold out until she turns 12 in January.

Well, I guess I'd better go.  Thanks for listening.  Maybe I'll copy this to Dee Dee as well.   She doesn't suffer enough anymore.  I think I'm a little depressed.  You think?  I want this headache to go away.  I'd go to bed, but I've had too much coffee.

Well, anyway, good night!  Love you!

Love you too, P.J.!

Love you too, Dennice!

P.S.  I enjoyed all the little funnies you guys sent today.  Hey, P.J., Thomas really got a big laugh from the stuttering cat story!!  Oh yeah, and he "kissed a squirrel because he's sexy and he does what he wants," Andrew "had lunch with a stuffed animal because that's how he rolls", and Eler Beth kicked a llama because she can."

My sisters are funny and sweet and they can cheer me up when I'm feeling down.  You guys are funny and sweet too, so I figured I'd give you the chance to cheer me up, too.  I don't get down too often, and I don't think I ever really complain about physical ills and pains in my journal, so this may be a first.  Oh yes, and I will explain the P.S.  I realize it sounds a little whacko.

Well, that's it.  Party's over.  So glad you could come.

Try the veal.

A Meme From Dawn

I got this meme from Dawn and thought it looked fun, so I did it.

What were you doing 10 years ago?

10 years ago, I had a seven year old (second grader) and a 1 year old (who was still nursing).  Thomas was working where he is working now, actually, and I was a stay-at-home-Mom like I am now.  I was spending a lot of time volunteering with Andrew's second-grade class. We hadn't bought our house yet, and I didn't have a computer!  Gasp!

Five naughty snacks you enjoy:

There are too many to choose just five, but I'll do like Dawn and try to choose some unusual ones:

4.  All the songs from the Disney movie "Aladdin"

(Not Oprah $, so don't go too wild, and it has to be something you would use or be included with, no gifts)

1.  Buy some riverfront property for hunting and fishing.

2.  Build a cabin on that property.

3.  Buy myself a new car.

4.  Take a family vacation to Canada.

5.  Take another vacation to Ireland.

Five bad habits:

1.  Staying up too late at night.

2.  Going without sleep during the day (from staying up too late at night).

3.  Driving too fast (shame on me!).

4.  Snacking at night.

5.  Leaving the tv on when no one is watching it.

Five things I like doing:

All Dolled Up

Two of my sisters took my mother to see THE LION KING in Louisville last week.  And that morning one of them took her to get a manicure and pedicure!  Her first one!

Wow!  First my 83 year-old mother joins Curves For Women, and now she's getting mani/pedis and going to see broadway shows.  I just don't know what to think of the old lady!

Evening At Home

We are back from dinner and are settling in for the evening.

We have plans to get away the first weekend in July, and that is our gift to ourselves this year.  (Of course all throughout the year we have a habit of wanting something, getting it, and then saying, this will be my anniversary present from you. lol)  We also got the kids some video games they'd been wanting (we always include them in that part of the anniversary celebration).  And Thomas sent me roses, as he always does.

Well, actually, he has sent or brought me roses every year except one, and that was the first one.  Our anniversary that year fell on a Monday or a Friday, I don't remember which one, but I do remember that we had just moved, and that Thomas was driving about 70 miles to work and back every day.  I wasn't working at the time, so we were very careful with money.  He had said something about getting me roses, and I'd told him not to, that we didn't need to spend that much money on flowers.

I fixed a really nice dinner, and we ate by candlelight.  We both dressed up very formally for dinner, and afterwards we danced in our living room by candlelight, too.

Well, although he didn't get me roses, as per my request, he just couldn't see not bringing me any flowers, so on his way home from work he stopped and picked some lillies growing wild by the side of the road.  He walked in with a huge bouquet of them, and I was so thrilled.  That meant more to me than the roses would have.  Even now, every June or late May when those particular lillies start to bloom I think about that.

Well, I had told that story to Eler Beth, so she secretly asked her Daddy to take her to pick some for me, and they did.  So now I have a pretty bouquet of lillies on my desk, and roses on my table.  I guess I need to get some pictures while they're fresh.  Somewhere I have pictures from that first anniversary.  I'll have to dig them out.  (See my scrapbooking is very erratic, and I have a lot of old photo albums that I need to re-do into nice, attractive scrapbooks.)

I want to thank everyone for their nice comments and emails.  I'm going to have Thomas read them all later.  Poor baby, he is knocked out on the couch right now.  (No, I didn't knock him out! lol That would have been a nice "happy anniversary" wouldn't it?)  These long hours are taking their toll, and usually he naps a bit right after dinner.  That's okay.  We'll finish our celebrations a little later when he's got his strength back! {wriggling eyebrows here} lol

Eler Beth is playing her nightly neighborhood game of freeze tag or hide 'n seek, I'm not sure which, and I can hear Andrew playing his keyboard.  So it's very quiet and peaceful right now.  No one asked, but if they had I'd have told them that giving Mom a little bit of uninterrupted time here at the computer this evening would be a great gift!  So I'm off to enjoy that gift for the next hour or so.

Later!
