I'm Glad I Haven't Quit

We had our meetings with human resources Wednesday, individually, to discuss our severance packages.  I am so very glad that I have stuck it out so far because the severance is better than I thought it would be.  I will definitely be able to take the month of July off and I could take August too if I wanted to.  I probably will start seriously looking for something else by the end of July, though.  The company is also paying for a two-day workshop in July at Wright Management Consultants which should be very helpful.  They help you zero-in on what you really want to do, career-wise, and help you write your resume to highlight the various skills and experience you have that fit with whatever job you're going for.  We had a meeting with someone from Wright after the meeting with the HR rep.  The lady was very nice and she asked how I was holding up.  She seemed concerned about whether I had a good support network at home.

So, anyway, it's nice to know that Thomas would have supported me if I had quit last week, but I guess I can stick it out for five more weeks.  Our team is dwindling down again, though.   Rita's last day was the 19th.  (She was my best bud at work.)  She took a position downtown (with the competition!).  Another old-timer goes to her new position within the company on Tuesday and another one leaves on the 9th.  We lost three of our temps to help out in other departments, and I'm sure they'll be moving others soon.  Another one of our temps leaves on the 7th.

They actually asked if we wanted to work overtime today!  Yeah, right!

Thomas' brother and his family had planned on coming up this weekend but had to cancel at the last minute.  So that changed our plans a little.  We really hadn't much planned, just visiting and eating mostly. lol  I like not having anything specific planned on a three-day weekend.  Andrew is out of town until Sunday.  He went to visit his friend, Jacob.  They went to a graduation last night.  Then I think he has a pool party to go to on Monday at another friends' house.  He helped them get their pool ready on Wendesday after school.

I'd like to start getting our shed cleaned out and organized if Thomas feels up to it this weekend.  I have a feeling that he'll be going fishing, though.   He's got a tree to cut down for a neighbor, too.  He'll probably try to do that this weekend.

Well, that's it for now.  More later.

The company that I have worked for, for 28 years was sold as of midnight last night. We get one weeks pay for each year of service as a severance....
However, they wont pay it in a lump sum.  They will pay it weekly, which means we cannot collect unemployment.  and if we find a job.............
the severance quits being paid....
