Simplify!

Boy do I need to simplify my life!!!  But not to the extent that one of my nieces is doing.  Her mother, my sister, told me a few days ago that her daughter has been reading some organization books and has started to systematically simplify her house by getting rid of almost everything that isn't needed; like little nick nacs and such.  I'm not sure I could go that far!  But I don't blame her.  She has three boys (9-year old twins and a pre-schooler), and she and her husband are both very busy people.

But in my own way I am trying to simplify my life a little.  I've definitely gotten rid of more "junk" this past year than in years' past.  And I've recently got a chore chart going again.  (The kids just LOVE that one!)  And I've been trying to stick to a cleaning schedule.  Yes, the dust fairy has been at it again!!  (I can't tell.  Is she dusting?  Or spreading dust??)

I recently read a good idea in a magazine.  I typed out every chore and project that I've been putting off, printed out the list, then cut out each thing listed and put them in a container.  In this case I put them in a pretty bowl with a lid that one of my sisters made in pottery class.  Every day I'm supposed to pick one at random and do it.  I haven't started yet, because I haven't had the time this week so far to do anything but the necessary things that have to be done.  But I think it's a great idea!  I'll let you know how it goes!

I just finished doing the school store at Eler Beth's school, and since I have a few minutes before I leave for work I thought I'd check my alerts and do an entry.  Instead of a chore from the chore bowl!!  Yes, we'll just see how that works out, won't we?

"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!  I say let your affairs be as two or three, not a hundred or a thousand.  Simplify, simplify!" -- Henry David Thoreau

That's my New Year's Resolution; to simplify and to de-clutter. We have sooo much junk that we don't need. I've made a dent so far; sold lots of books on Amazon.com. Now on to the junk room that somehow has become junk rooms....

have a good day!

If I simplified my life, I am betting a huge amount of stress would be relieved!  I live in a place where every nook and cranny is stuffed; closets over flowing.  I can't throw nothin' away!  JAE

Yes we'll see how this goes. lol I knew a lady who said she was doing this once. She was only going to have one set of sheets for each bed. Take them off, laundry, put them back on etc. Of course I am not the type to do this. Always have to be prepared in case someone gets sick. I have been doing some getting rid of though. For instance I had belts that haven't fitted me for years. I finally faced reality. I will never get that small again and if I did they probably aren't in style anymore so out they went. Paula

That does sounds like a good idea.  It's kind of like doing the dishes tho, once you get started it's actually kind of soothing.  You really are accomplishing something and the warm water is so soothing.  It's just sticking your hand in that water to get started that's so hard!  LOL

Wishing you the best New Year!   Come visit me--I'm still adding to!

Thoreau wrote a huge book off of his living in a cabin for a winter... he needs to simplify himself before he worries about you.

I'm a pack rat extreme... why, just today I refused to throw out a Yankee Candle, even though the wick is gone. You see, it's a perfect fit for my holderless globe.

If I can think of any reason to like something, I won't throw it out. We just keep moving to bigger and bigger houses.

Sounds like heaven to me!  I would love to get rid of three quarters of our stuff.  But the cry of anguish and the resentment I would get from the rest of the house would be awful.  LOL   -  Barbara
