Jeff Dowell, Jr. 1922 - 2002

Five years ago today, May 19, at about 11:30 p.m. my father died.  Above are photos of him as a Navy Gunner during WWII; with my mom on their wedding day; with the first of his seven children; with me, the seventh child; with the first of their many great-grandchildren; and the beautiful headstone that my mother picked out for his grave.

Yes that is a pretty headstone. I like my husband's too. It has a tree, fence with a deer jumping over it. Paula

One of the best entries I have ever seen...and ironic at the same time for two people close to me who are going through the same thing.  Bless you for doing this when I can't really sleep right now.

Uh, it's not 4:46 a.m. here, by the way...it's 1:46 in the Pacific NW...okay, goodnight.

My grandfather was also in the Navy in WWII.  He was in Guadalcanal.  They were about the same age.  My grandfather was 86 when he died in March.
I'm sure you miss him a bunch!

I am so happy you visited my journal.  I went private for one day and when I went back public, everyone had lost my alerts.  I had no idea it would do that.  I am very sorry for your loss.  I lost my father almost 19 years ago and the day before yesterday, I smelled someone smoking cigars and nearly lost it.  His brand.  Often I wish I could call him to play him a song I heard on the radio.  Or show him something.  Thank you for sharing with everyone these precious pictures.

What delightful photos. I have not tried this new blended way to post photos because I have not had enough to post at one time.  But it works well with this entry.  Your mother is such a tiny little thing in the photo where he is carrying her, light as a feather I am sure.  Gerry
