What is the strangest thing you've ever craved and then prepared for breakfast? I'm not talking about pizza or chinese food left over from the night before, or a piece of chocolate cake. I mean something that you would normally not have for breakfast and that you had to actually take some time to prepare.
Well, I got up at 5:00 this morning and had my coffee. Then I started getting a wee bit peckish around 8 a.m. Actually, all of a sudden I was starving! I didn't want fruit, cereal, bagels, bacon, nothing that I would normally fix for myself. I had no idea what I wanted, but I was very hungry! I glanced through the refrigerator, then took a quick look through the freezer. Hash brown potatoes? No. Frozen waffles? No. Chicken liver? Bingo!
I know, I know! But for some reason, deep fried, fattening chicken livers sounded absolutely wonderful, so I proceeded to thaw, bread and fry! I actually think that's what woke Andrew up (my kids love chicken liver, too!); he came in the kitchen with interest in his eyes -- "You're cooking chicken? For breakfast?!"
I cook chicken liver very rarely these days. We really don't have a lot of fried foods; things I used to fry I now broil, bake or grill. But once in a while you just have to have country fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried something! And a few days ago as I was picking out chicken breasts my eyes alighted on the little tubs of chicken livers, and I thought, "Wow! It's been a long time!" So I bought them and put them in the freezer. I guess now I know why I bought them, huh?
Now it is lunch time, and I'm having cantaloupe. Very good, very, very juicy, farmer's market cantaloupe! Maybe that will make up for my slip. I seem to have satisfied my craving for chicken liver. Last night I had poached chicken breasts, rice and fresh tomatoes for dinner, so you see, I'm really not usually this abandoned!
Oh well, I enjoyed my breakfast, thank you very much!
I have a feeling we'll be having fresh bass for dinner!

OMGosh! In the first paragraph of your entry you asked what the strangest thing was we have every craved and made for breakfast, and before you revealed what yours was, I already knew what mine was...Chicken livers! I swear! That is so weird! Do you slather them in fried sweet onions, too? Oh, my. I am suddenly starving...and jonesing for some fried chicken livers!!! Jae
Ewww! LOL!! I'm sitting here thinking and thinking but can't recall anything exceptionally weird I've ever had or craved for breakfast. Cold pizza is probably the closet I can come to "weird breakfast." Although now that you mention it, some of those leftover babyback ribs are sounding pretty good right now! :-)
You're a sweet girl but I gotta tell you I would eat dirt before I would eat any kind of liver. YUCK! Now maybe drink some Big Red or something like that. Paula
