Yesterday went very well for both the kids. I was on pins and needles when it was time for them to get here. Andrew got home first, and it has been years since I've seen him this excited about a first day of school. He is so pleased with that IT class at Prosser Tech. He's full of plans for taking my computer in to install more RAM and building his own system by the end of the year! I hope this enthusiasm continues throughout the year and extends to his other classes as well.
Eler Beth, likewise, came home excited. Three of her best friends are in her classroom, and she was very impressed with her new school building. She had one sheet of homework that was pretty easy and quick to complete, so for now, at least, no homework hassles. Everyone was in bed almost on time as well.
Now, just so you don't think I'm perfect, lol, I have to say that fixing two breakfasts yesterday was not the norm! I had told both kids that I'd fix whatever they wanted since it was the first day of school. Usually they have a choice of staples that they can prepare themselves like cereal, fruit, or convenience things that can be made in the toaster or microwave. Sometimes Eler Beth may want eggs, and I'll fix them for her if she does. But she usually doesn't eat meat in the mornings, and Andrew rarely eats anything in the morning. It's very hard to get him to actually eat breakfast that early, and when he does he usually settles for cereal. But sometimes he wants sausage or bacon. So this morning I fixed sausage links for whoever wanted them, and then they chose whatever they wanted to go with it. For this morning Andrew just had sausage, and Eler Beth had cereal and some toast and jelly. She sometimes eats breakfast at school as well as at home, for which I am glad. I really think that sometimes it's just too early, or too soon after getting up to eat for some kids, and by the time she gets to school she sometimes has more of an appetite.
Well, enough of that. Anyway, school is off to a great start so far, and I'm looking forward to being here for as long as I can afford to be before I have to go back to work. I enjoyed being home to hear their excited chatter last night, and fix a nice meal that everyone enjoyed. I didn't have to come in, exhausted, from work and the commute from work. I hope that can last for a while.

Glad the first day went well...Jae
First day, good start - hope it continues like that. It's actually quite valuable for a parent to be home for the kids on their return home from school.
thanks for stopping by my journal..
ahhh kids and back to school... was eons ago for me! I do remember the quiet though!! a chance to hear my own thoughts!!!
Glad you are able to be home at least for now to hear your children's school chatter and fix breakfast if they want it. They won't be young forever. Paula
glad the first day went well. It is tough to get back in to the swing of things after the summer. Hope the rest of the school days go as smoothly!!

I'm glad the first day went well. Isn't it great to get some me time ever now and then.
Hugs, Angela
yeay!School is back in session for you. I hope you can stay for as long as possible. It's great to be available for the kids when they get home, and to not feel exhausted when they need help or guidance with homework. I was fortunate enough to stay home during my son's entire school career, then I returned to the work force as a teacher myself. So many teachers have young children at home, and I don't know how they do it: teach all day, plan, and go home to take care of their own kids who have school work, or even babies... my hat is off to them. Glad everyone is excited... I hope it continues until June of next year. I go back Monday to get the classroom ready. Bea
Glad all went well for you and the kids. I'm a little jealous about you being a stay at home mom for now while I'm working and commuting, etc. I loved being a SAHM but can no longer afford to do it. Hope this is a great year for all of you!
