I Licked A Gangster Because I'm Sexy And I Do What I Want!

This is one of the emails I got from my sisters today.  I don't know if I'd call "great" fun, but it was amusing for a few minutes.  This will explain the P.S. in the previous post.  Be sure to tell me what you came up with when you leave a comment!

I Feel Like Having A Pity Part

And You're Invited!!

I feel yucky today. I got an email from my sister Maxine a little bit ago, and I decided to complain to her.  Since I rarely complain about anything in my journal, I thought I'd share with you guys as well.  Aren't you glad?  It isn't much of a whine-fest, but since it's so unusual for me, here is a copy of the email I sent her.  Maybe it will amuse you.

I assume you got home okay?? lol

I meant to call Mom today, but I didn't.  I still don't feel well.  My sinus infection is better, I guess, but I'm still sneezing and having headaches.  I think I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor and have a full workup done; I haven't had everything tested and checked in a long time.  I am tired all the time.  And I do mean All. The. Time.  I can be up for a few hours and then I want to just sleep for a few hours, and so on.  So I finally figured maybe I'd better go make sure there's not some medical reason for it.  If it's just laziness, I can deal with that :)

Also, I've been having a lot of trouble with my left hip (hip, pelvic, hip socket, something like that), and I know it is stemming from my back, but I don't know if it's the sciatic nerve or a bad disc, or what.  But the pain is excruciating at times.  Sometimes if I've been standing for a while talking to someone all of the sudden the pain will hit me, and I'll have to hold back a gasp and a grimace.  I guess maybe I should start telling people what's wrong, so they don't think I'm demented!  Also I have bone spurs on my feet and ankles so that sometimes I literally cannot walk.  I can't put any weight on my foot when it does that.  It feels like I'm trying to put a raw stub on the floor and put all my weight on it.  Anyway, I'll probably tell my doc about all of that, too.  I don't know if a chiropractor could be of much use or not.  I think Thomas' insurance covers 16 or 18 visits a year, though, so I might as well take advantage of it.  I think my back would be in much worse shape if it wasn't for Thomas' massages.

I guess I'm done complaining.  I don't complain very often, but I have a headache right now, and I'm a little bit hyped up on coffee (for the headache), and you just happened to email me at the wrong time (for you, anyway), so you're taking the brunt of it.  I need to email P.J., too, so maybe I'll just copy this and send it to her as well.  That way she can get all the rich goodness out of my little complaining and whining session too.  We wouldn't want to leave her out, now would we?

On another subject entirely, my 11 year old is going to have to start shaving under her arms soon.  And I need to measure her to get a really accurate bra size so that I can buy her the right ones.  The little "A"s just aren't quite doing it any more.  She wants to shave her legs.  She just can't wait to shave her legs.  She actually does have a lot of hair on her legs, but she is still little-girl-looking enough to get away with not shaving.  I'm trying to convince her that she really doesn't want to start shaving her legs.  I say "Look at this", and shove a hairy appendage in her face.  "Just look at this!"  She obligingly examines the white, white leg covered with hair.  "See what happens when you start shaving?  You have to KEEP shaving!  It's a pain!  It's a chore!  It takes time away from important things  like reading or playing on the computer!  So you say to yourself, 'I'm going to skip shaving today.  I don't have to go anywhere.'  And day by day it just gets easier to put it off until tomorrow.  Until you look like this!"  Here I waggle my limb in front of her face again.  "Well," she says, "That's just because your legs are white.  If you were brown like me, they wouldn't show up as much."  I ignore her.  "And then, you have to run out to the store, and you're wearing shorts, and you forget that you haven't shaved in 29 days -"  ("29 days!" she gasps!) "- and of course you run into everyone you've ever known.  But does the embarrassment cause you to come home and immediately scrape a razor blade up your legs?  No!  That's how much fun it is!  You're willing to face the embarrassment and humiliation to avoid having to shave your legs."

I think MAYBE I can hold out until she turns 12 in January.

Well, I guess I'd better go.  Thanks for listening.  Maybe I'll copy this to Dee Dee as well.   She doesn't suffer enough anymore.  I think I'm a little depressed.  You think?  I want this headache to go away.  I'd go to bed, but I've had too much coffee.

Well, anyway, good night!  Love you!

Love you too, P.J.!

Love you too, Dennice!

P.S.  I enjoyed all the little funnies you guys sent today.  Hey, P.J., Thomas really got a big laugh from the stuttering cat story!!  Oh yeah, and he "kissed a squirrel because he's sexy and he does what he wants," Andrew "had lunch with a stuffed animal because that's how he rolls", and Eler Beth kicked a llama because she can."

My sisters are funny and sweet and they can cheer me up when I'm feeling down.  You guys are funny and sweet too, so I figured I'd give you the chance to cheer me up, too.  I don't get down too often, and I don't think I ever really complain about physical ills and pains in my journal, so this may be a first.  Oh yes, and I will explain the P.S.  I realize it sounds a little whacko.

Well, that's it.  Party's over.  So glad you could come.

Try the veal.

Two of my sisters took my mother to see THE LION KING in Louisville last week.  And that morning one of them took her to get a manicure and pedicure!  Her first one!

Wow!  First my 83 year-old mother joins Curves For Women, and now she's getting mani/pedis and going to see broadway shows.  I just don't know what to think of the old lady!

Neat Graphics

Bea has a great entry showing off some beautiful graphics she did using this web site.

Here is a sketch I did from a photo of me with my dad.

Evening At Home

We are back from dinner and are settling in for the evening.

We have plans to get away the first weekend in July, and that is our gift to ourselves this year.  (Of course all throughout the year we have a habit of wanting something, getting it, and then saying, this will be my anniversary present from you. lol)  We also got the kids some video games they'd been wanting (we always include them in that part of the anniversary celebration).  And Thomas sent me roses, as he always does.

Well, actually, he has sent or brought me roses every year except one, and that was the first one.  Our anniversary that year fell on a Monday or a Friday, I don't remember which one, but I do remember that we had just moved, and that Thomas was driving about 70 miles to work and back every day.  I wasn't working at the time, so we were very careful with money.  He had said something about getting me roses, and I'd told him not to, that we didn't need to spend that much money on flowers.

I fixed a really nice dinner, and we ate by candlelight.  We both dressed up very formally for dinner, and afterwards we danced in our living room by candlelight, too.

Well, although he didn't get me roses, as per my request, he just couldn't see not bringing me any flowers, so on his way home from work he stopped and picked some lillies growing wild by the side of the road.  He walked in with a huge bouquet of them, and I was so thrilled.  That meant more to me than the roses would have.  Even now, every June or late May when those particular lillies start to bloom I think about that.

Well, I had told that story to Eler Beth, so she secretly asked her Daddy to take her to pick some for me, and they did.  So now I have a pretty bouquet of lillies on my desk, and roses on my table.  I guess I need to get some pictures while they're fresh.  Somewhere I have pictures from that first anniversary.  I'll have to dig them out.  (See my scrapbooking is very erratic, and I have a lot of old photo albums that I need to re-do into nice, attractive scrapbooks.)

I want to thank everyone for their nice comments and emails.  I'm going to have Thomas read them all later.  Poor baby, he is knocked out on the couch right now.  (No, I didn't knock him out! lol That would have been a nice "happy anniversary" wouldn't it?)  These long hours are taking their toll, and usually he naps a bit right after dinner.  That's okay.  We'll finish our celebrations a little later when he's got his strength back! {wriggling eyebrows here} lol

Eler Beth is playing her nightly neighborhood game of freeze tag or hide 'n seek, I'm not sure which, and I can hear Andrew playing his keyboard.  So it's very quiet and peaceful right now.  No one asked, but if they had I'd have told them that giving Mom a little bit of uninterrupted time here at the computer this evening would be a great gift!  So I'm off to enjoy that gift for the next hour or so.

Later!

20 Years!

Today Thomas and I have been married for 20 Years, so Happy Anniversary to us!

We don't have plans for the day, since it's midweek, but we will have a special dinner with the kids tonight, and we have plans for a long weekend together in July.

Wow!

1/5 of a Century!

Two whole decades!

5 years times 4!

Holy Cow! Twenty Years!!

Catching Up On A Monday

Things have been pretty busy around here, so I'm trying to catch up on some things today.  I am trying to get caught up with reading journals, so if you don't hear from me on at least one entry in your journal, send me a reminder.  Seriously!

Thomas' truck is back up and running.  It turns out that it was something called the fuel-pump timer.  I didn't even know a fuel pump had a timer.  Our mechanic really had to do some digging and diagnosing to find that problem.  It runs really well, now, so that timer must have been off for a while.  It had never run badly, exactly, it just runs so much better now.  It's an Isuzu Trooper, and has quite a few miles on it, but it has always been a good truck.  It's a four-wheel drive with a lot of power, which is perfect for Thomas, being the hunter and fisherman that he is.  Now we drop my car off tonight, and hopefully Donnie'll get my problem fixed tomorrow.

Andrew has been doing some yard-work and helping with odd jobs for friends of ours.  They are the ones who had us over on Derby Day for a nice get-together.  I really love this couple.  They are in their late 40s and have only been married for a little over a year.  Kim is very much like one of my sisters, and she treats my kids as if she were their aunt.  They are both professionals, and he works some very long hours.  So since she has several home projects for the summer, she asked Andrew if he'd be interested in working for her.  It has been really good for him.  (Of course, extra pocket money is always a good thing in his opinion!)  We have not let him get a job yet, but he probably will during this school year.  I really didn't want him working last year, because with all the "social" obligations of my very outgoing son, I just knew his grades would suffer.  This is good, though, because it's honest, hard work, and she pays him well.  She also feeds him, and he loves her and Steve.

Anyway, he was over there working for her on Friday, then on Saturday she had a little get-together for some of the young people in our congregation, so Andrew was there all afternoon and evening.  Then on Sunday, she and Steve had some visitors they were taking out to dinner, and they included Andrew in the invitation as well, since two of the girls were friends of his.  Then he went to play his weekly dodge-ball game.  I let him rest up today, but tomorrow I'm putting him to work on our yard.

Eler Beth has been busy this weekend, too.  She and I did some shopping on Saturday, and we got a lot of plants for the front garden.  We also went a bit overboard on herbs, and I still don't have all of them planted.  Kim gave her some little tea-light lanterns that she had admired one time; Steve has some very specific ideas of what he wants inside and outside of their house, and he didn't like them.  So Kim gave them to Eler Beth.  We took the birds to have their wings clipped on Saturday, also; I think I'm going to do it from now on, though.  She has been playing nightly games of freeze-tag and catching fireflies with a lot of the neighbor kids.  I let her off easy today, as well, but tomorrow will be another story!

Thomas had a great day yesterday.  It was his first day off since Memorial Day.  The kids took him to Bass Pro Shop, and he asked me to fix some baked rabbit for dinner, so I did.  We hadn't had rabbit in a while; a friend of ours raises them to sell, and they are very good, although I prefer wild ones.  My mother has a way of baking them that is so delicious, and Thomas loves it, so I enjoyed doing that for him yesterday.  (I remember my Mom making rabbit hash with leftovers when I was young; I've never made it, but I find myself craving that today.)

I have given myself some time off today, too.  I've been messing around on the computer and going through some papers that needed filing.  It has been overcast most of the day, but we got a few sprinkles of rain.  Right now the sun is shining again.  I watered plants and flowers yesterday, thinking that would bring on the rain, but I guess I didn't water them enough!  We do need some rain, but our days have been so nice, it's hard to complain too much.  So far we haven't had to ration water.

Well, that's about it, I guess.  Maybe I'll come back later and wow you with some impressive disquisition (ooh, new word!)!

But I wouldn't hold my breath, if I was you!  Later!

June Is Survivor Month

Please click daily from now through the end of the month, and ask your friends to do so, too.  They are almost halfway to their goal, and since the month is just a little over halfway over, it isn't impossible for them to reach the goal.  Read below:

Ask Me, Part Four

Katie gave me a couple of really hard ones:

"Here are my (3):

1). If the walls in your home could talk what would they be saying?  Paint Us!!  Seriously!  I really need to do some interior painting!  Other than that, they'd tell me to get rid of some junk; they'd tell Eler Beth to slow down a little; they'd tell Andrew to get outside more; and they'd tell Thomas that he needs a day off from work!

2). If you were to make a movie of your life ~ What would you name it and who be play the starring role (you)?  I have no idea!!  A movie of MY life?  How about "A Comedy Of Errors"?  No, wait, Shakespeare already took that one, didn't he?  Hmmm.  Maybe "Live and Learn"??  Who would play me?  Probably some unknown actress.  Playing me would be her big break-out role.  Hah!

3). What is your favorite comfort thing?  I'm not sure how to answer this.  If I need comfort for something serious that's going on, spending time with Thomas is my favorite comfort thing.   He can usually help me stay calm and relaxed.  Sometimes I need the comfort of being with my mom and my sisters.   I call that needing some "Dowell Girls" time.  I also find comfort in a good book, or a nice phone conversation with a good friend.  As for comfort food, it would have to be a pasta dish of some sort, preferably a very cheesy one!  Spending an evening at home with just Thomas, Andrew, and Eler Beth, playing a board game or reminiscing about the kids when they were little is a peaceful thing, too.  I hope I've answered this one suitably.

Looking forward to your answers! Have a great day!
Katie

Phew!  That's three more down.

Thank you Donna for the graphic

Ask Me, Part Three

The third one to ask questions was Kelli:

I have been scared to do this. I might let people ask me one question! O.K.

1. When was the last time you went to the spa?  I have NEVER been to a spa.  I think it's about time I went, huh?

2. do you know how to scrap book?  Yes, I do, and I have two going right now that I need to finish.

3. what are your goals once there are no more children in the house.  Well, Eler Beth has informed us that she will ALWAYS live with us; and the man she marries will have to be okay with living with us also.  We'll see how THAT goes.  After Thomas retires we would like to get some property in the wilds of Canada and spend a few months out of every year there fishing and hunting (and reading and writing), and I would love to get a really, really nice RV and travel for several months out of the year.  Those are the dreams, anyway.  (And that's what the 401-k and other investments are theoretically for.)

Ask Me, Part Two

I believe Traci was the next one to send her questions:

"Ok, I like to play even though you didn't ask me anything!  LOL

1.  Are you going to homeschool Eler Beth next year?  Yes, indeed.  We had always planned on homeschooling during her Middle School years; we just upped the date by starting with her fifth grade.  I really do love teaching her at home, and wish I'd been able to start a long time ago.

2.  Who was your first love?  I have to be literal here and say that Thomas was and is my first love.  I never liked/had a crush on/was infatuated with/dated/whatever anyone else where what I felt was even a tenth of what I feel for my husband.  But if you mean who was my first crush/love as in the guy I first dated and got my heartbroken over, his name was Keith, and he's a pretty good guy.  I run into him once in a while.  He was very, very immature when we were dating (as a teen, how could he have been otherwise?), and he was very much a momma's boy, and momma didn't like him to have "girlfriends".  But I really thought there was more to him than there seemed to be at the time.  He just had some growing up to do.  I did shed a few tears over him at the time, though.

3.  That's it, I'm too tired to think of another one.  That's okay, because my answer to #2 was long enough to cover #3, anyway.

Traci"

Note:  I have since asked Traci three questions.  After all, fair is fair.

She Knows What It Takes Sometimes

Yesterday afternoon Eler Beth went down the street to play with two sisters (11 and 8) who are friends of hers.  Then they decided they'd like to come down to our house to play, so she called me to get permission.  I said yes, and they came on down.  These two girls have two brothers, and the family is getting ready to move.  The boys (12 and 7) are at a day camp every day this week until 5, and the father works, so the mother just has the two girls at home with her this week.

I imagined that it was good for her to have Eler Beth down there keeping her girls occupied while she sorted and packed or to have her girls down here, but she's really funny about letting them go anywhere, even just down the street, so I was surprised she'd given them permission.

Eler Beth told me later last night that when the older girl asked their mom if they could come down, she hesitated for a minute.  Eler Beth said, "I didn't say anything. Then A said, 'Mom, it would give you some peace and quiet.' and I thought, 'She's got'er now!' "

Yes, my girl knows.  That's all it would have taken for my permission!

I'm Not That Bad!

No, I have not just been sitting here at the computer since 5 a.m. this morning.  I've been doing other things as well.  I just keeping stopping what I'm doing to play on the computer.

I have done three loads of laundry, including bedclothes, (line dried )cleaned my kitchen   and my bathroom, fixed breakfast and lunch, and cleaned and re-arranged under my kitchen sink.

I'm a little bit punchy from getting up so early and having so much coffee.  I also spent a little bit of one-on-one time with two of the dogs, one at a time.  Did that make sense?  When you have six dogs it's sometimes hard to spend one-on-one time with them, and they really appreciate it when you do.

I do a little here and a little there, and then I sit down and play on the 'puter.

And now I really should take a nap.

And if I had one of these I probably would!

Ask Me, Part One

Dawn was the first with three questions.

    She asked:

1.  You have to eat one dinner meal every day for the rest of your life, what will it be?  Hmmm.  I gave this a lot of thought, and here it is:  elk roast (because it's the most tender and tasty meat there is) with sauteed mushrooms, mashed potatoes with gravy (because if I have to eat the same thing for dinner every night, mashed potatoes had better be on the menu), creamed Brussels sprouts (because I have a very simple and out-of-this-world recipe for them, and I could make myself sick eating them, they're so good!), steamed asparagus (because it's one of my favorite veggies and maybe they'll counteract the rich, fattening, heavily creamed Brussels sprouts), made-from-scratch biscuits, and strawberry short cake with cool whip for dessert.  How's that?

2.  What one vegetable would you banish from existence if you could?  I can't think of a veggie that I don't like.  I don't like hominy, but if I banished hominy I'd have to banish corn, and I like corn.  Is rhubarb a vegetable?  I don't care much for it, although rhubarb and strawberry pie is good.  I guess it'd have to be rhubarb.

3.  What was the first arena/stadium concert that you went to see and who did you go with?  The band Journey, with a group of friends.

Phew!  That wasn't so bad.

(Can you tell I've been having fun with my Meez?)

Happy Hump Day

When I got up this morning to take Thomas to work at 4 a.m., Eler Beth woke up.  I suggested she go back to bed, but she assured me that she would not be able to do so.  She also let me know that she was very hungry and would love some French toast for breakfast.

So after dropping off Thomas I swung by Kroger to get a gallon of milk, because I remembered that I was almost out.  I spied a yellow sale sticker in front of the milk in the freezer case, and thought "oh goodie, it's on sale."

Yep.  On sale.  For $3.09.

How high is the price of milk going to go anyway?

Anyway, when I got home she was lying on the sofa, but she assured me that she was still awake.  So, being the WonderMom that I am I started preparing batter for French toast.  After I had two slices done I called her into the kitchen, asking how many she thought she'd like.  No answer.

Even now she is still asleep on the sofa.  Oh well, I put up the French toast for later, and saved the rest of the precious batter (??$3.09 for a gallon of milk??) for later as well.

Yes, still no Thomas' truck.  It was the fuel pump, and apparently it shorted out a relay of some sort.  D, our mechanic, fixed it (or rather one of his guys did), and we picked it up on Monday.  Thomas stopped, got gas, drove home; later I realized I had to run to the grocery for something and took his truck since it was parked in front of my car; drove to the store, got what I needed, tried to start the truck, and it did the exact same thing again!

So it's back at the mechanic's.  He's really swamped right now, so I don't know when he'll get to it; hopefully today.  He's a good mechanic, with reasonable rates, and he's never been stumped before.  I really hope it's something he can take care of because I know it will be more expensive if we have to go somewhere else.  In the meantime I'm taking Thomas to work and picking him up, and I still need to get my own car in to have some things looked at.

Well, I'm in the mood to journal today, so don't be surprised if you see a lot of me.

Ta for now.

MEEZ

Guido introduced us to Meez recently, and I have been having fun with it.  It's sort of like playing dress up or playing with dolls. lol

This is my MEEZ --

   She's a lot skinnier than I am.  I haven't been that skinny since I was 21! (Pre-kids)

Click on this image to take you to Meez and Photobucket.

I think that when I finally get around to visiting virtually with all of my J-land buddies and their families I'll let my Meez be the one to go.  Wouldn't that be fun?

Jumping on the Bandwagon

Another thing going around J-Land is the "Ask Me Three Questions" meme.  I can't imagine anyone really being all that interested, but go ahead if you'd like.  Ask me three questions, and I'll try to answer them truthfully.

A Name Game

I saw this at Mary Jo's journal and thought it would be fun.

1. YOUR REAL NAME:  Lori

2. YOUR GANGSTA NAME: (first 2 letters of real name plus -izzle):  Lo-izzle

3. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (fave color and fave animal): Blue Cat

4. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (your middle name and street you live on):  Frances Assembly

5. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 letters of your first name):  Hello (I really LOVE this one!)

6. YOUR SUPERHERO NAME: (Your 2nd favorite color, and favorite drink):  Fushia Tea  (which actually sounds rather tasty)

7. YOUR ARABIC NAME: (2nd letter of your first name, 3rd letter of your last name, 1st letter of your middle name, 2nd letter of your mom's maiden name, 3rd letter of you dad's middle name, 1st letter of a sibling's first name, and last letter of your mom's middle name):  Olfo-Ls  or Olfols.  My dad didn't have a middle name, so I put the hyphen there, but it's better without.  Now I have SIX siblings, so it could actually have been this OR -- Olfods, Olfoas, Olfolms, Olfops, or Olfobs.  I think I like Olfops best of these choices.  I'll have to let my sister Phyllis know.

8. YOUR GOTH NAME: (black, and the name of one of your pet's names):  Either Black Scout (my dog) or Black Freedom (my cat).  Either one is just too, too cool, right?

This is Hello, (or Olfops, or Black Scout, or whatever) signing off.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

When Thomas got home from work yesterday he and I ran some errands, then he followed me over to our mechanic's shop (a friend of ours) where I left my car to have some things checked out.  I got in his truck with him, we took off, and about three blocks from the mechanic's garage the truck decided to stop on us.

It would sound like it wanted to start, but it just couldn't quite do it.  It almost sounded flooded, but it's a fuel injection motor, so it couldn't have been flooded.  If our mechanic had been at his shop, it wouldn't have been much trouble, but it was after hours.   So Thomas started calling friends to see if he could find someone who could come tow the truck back to the mechanic's shop.

He made three or four calls and got voice mail or answering machines each time.  Then he called another friend who lived not too far away from where we were.  This friend answered the phone, and Thomas asked if he had a truck at his disposal that could pull our truck.  He said no, but that he'd be there to help us anyway, and that since we were only three blocks away from the mechanic's, he and Thomas could just push the truck.

Thomas said, "Oh, I'm not going to ask you to do that."

And this friend, said, "I'll be there in five minutes," and hung up.

As soon as he'd hung up, another friend called back after getting Thomas' message, and said he'd be right there with a truck.

So both guys showed up at about the same time.  Between the three of them they came to the conclusion that it was the fuel pump.  While they were hooking up Thomas' truck to the friend's truck, another friend called back and was getting ready to come to our aid as well.  It's nice to have lots of friends; and I'll tell you what -- Thomas is a great guy, who will do anything for a friend, and these guys know it and will drop what they're doing to come to his aid as well.  The last guy who called lived about 30 or 40 minutes away and was having a cookout, but was ready to come if we needed him.

Well, anyway, we pulled the truck back to the mechanic's shop, left it and retrieved my car to drive home.  I took Thomas to work at 4 this morning, and am waiting to hear from the mechanic.  If he can get Thomas' truck on the road today, I'll take my car back to him and switch them out.

It never rains, but it pours, doesn't it?

Our whole week has been like that; first one thing and then another.  Oh well.  It could always be worse.  The weather is great, and I'm getting ready to go check out some yard sales.  My sister from Florida is at my Mom's for a week or two, and we'll be getting down there to see her next week.  So I've got plenty to be happy about.  I just hope next week goes better than this past week.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Learn Something New

I have been remiss in posting all of my "learn something new" entries.  I thought about just saying, "forget it", but I took the time to make sure I learned something and wrote about it, so I'm going to go ahead and post them all in one entry.

Day 18 -- Accidents

I learned that there is more chance of being hit by a flying champagne cork than of being bitten by a poisonous spider.  I don't think I have to worry since I'm rarely in the vicinity of a flying champagne cork.

Day 19 -- Blinking

Women blink twice as often as men.  Maybe because we're always "batting our eyes" at the gentlemen??

Day 20 -- Pledge

The word "pledge" in Dutch mean "piss", as the Johnson Wax Co. found out.

Day 21 -- Strange Laws

In the county where I was born there was once a law on the books that made it illegal to walk your duck on a leash.  I. Kid. You. Not.

Day 22 -- Satellites

All of Uranus' satellites are named after characters from Shakespeare.

Day 23 -- Rosemary Kennedy...

...is still alive.  For some reason I thought she had died before her mother.

Day 24 -- Hitler

Hitler's third grade teacher wrote in a report that young Adolf was temperamental and fancied himself a leader.  I don't know if this is true or not, and probably isn't, but isn't it funny?  I'll do a little more digging and see if I can find confirmation of this.

Note:  I never did do any more digging.  Perhaps I will someday.

Day 25 -- Lightening

85% of people struck and killed by lightening are men.  This is very interesting to me because I have a brother-in-law who has been struck by lightening three times!!  I wonder what the ratio is between men and women who have been struck by lightening and lived.

Day 26 -- Quilting

Today I started a patchwork quilt.  I have never quilted before, so I got some tips from my mother (and an instruction book).  If I manage to finish the thing, I'll post pictures.

Day 27 -- The letter A

If you were to write out every number, you would get to the number 1000 (one thousand) before getting to the letter "A".

Day 28 --  The Lesson I Learned

Today I learned that the next time I decide to learn something new for 30 days, I'm going to choose a less busy month -- like January or February.

Day 29 --Freecycling

Today I learned what Freecycling is, and I joined a local Freecycle group.

Day 30 -- Lock Picking

Today I learned that I can pick a lock, if I try hard enough.  Eler Beth has this little lock box for which she lost the key.  So I managed to pick it with a little tiny screwdriver.   It's a good thing I did because she had some real "treasures" in there.

Day 31 -- Bonus

Today I learned that I am rather tired of learning something new each day! lol  I think I'll take a few months and just let new information come to me naturally instead of going to look for it.

Weekend Wrap-Up

We've had a great weekend here.  Friday night I took the kids to see Shrek The Third, which was pretty good.  Then Saturday morning Eler Beth and I spent about three hours at yard sales in one neighborhood!  They were having a neighborhood sale, and there were dozens of them.  Then in the afternoon we had a thundershower.  We've really been needing the rain.  It rained a bit this morning also.

Tonight we barbecued some chicken and pork, and a friend of Thomas' came over so Thomas could help him sight in his compound bow.  I've been very lazy today, except for helping with the barbecue.  But I'll make up for it tomorrow, I'm sure.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

First of the Month

Don't forget to schedule your yearly mammogram if you haven't all ready!!
