Learn Something New

I have been remiss in posting all of my "learn something new" entries.  I thought about just saying, "forget it", but I took the time to make sure I learned something and wrote about it, so I'm going to go ahead and post them all in one entry.

Day 18 -- Accidents

I learned that there is more chance of being hit by a flying champagne cork than of being bitten by a poisonous spider.  I don't think I have to worry since I'm rarely in the vicinity of a flying champagne cork.

Day 19 -- Blinking

Women blink twice as often as men.  Maybe because we're always "batting our eyes" at the gentlemen??

Day 20 -- Pledge

The word "pledge" in Dutch mean "piss", as the Johnson Wax Co. found out.

Day 21 -- Strange Laws

In the county where I was born there was once a law on the books that made it illegal to walk your duck on a leash.  I. Kid. You. Not.

Day 22 -- Satellites

All of Uranus' satellites are named after characters from Shakespeare.

Day 23 -- Rosemary Kennedy...

...is still alive.  For some reason I thought she had died before her mother.

Day 24 -- Hitler

Hitler's third grade teacher wrote in a report that young Adolf was temperamental and fancied himself a leader.  I don't know if this is true or not, and probably isn't, but isn't it funny?  I'll do a little more digging and see if I can find confirmation of this.

Note:  I never did do any more digging.  Perhaps I will someday.

Day 25 -- Lightening

85% of people struck and killed by lightening are men.  This is very interesting to me because I have a brother-in-law who has been struck by lightening three times!!  I wonder what the ratio is between men and women who have been struck by lightening and lived.

Day 26 -- Quilting

Today I started a patchwork quilt.  I have never quilted before, so I got some tips from my mother (and an instruction book).  If I manage to finish the thing, I'll post pictures.

Day 27 -- The letter A

If you were to write out every number, you would get to the number 1000 (one thousand) before getting to the letter "A".

Day 28 --  The Lesson I Learned

Today I learned that the next time I decide to learn something new for 30 days, I'm going to choose a less busy month -- like January or February.

Day 29 --Freecycling

Today I learned what Freecycling is, and I joined a local Freecycle group.

Day 30 -- Lock Picking

Today I learned that I can pick a lock, if I try hard enough.  Eler Beth has this little lock box for which she lost the key.  So I managed to pick it with a little tiny screwdriver.   It's a good thing I did because she had some real "treasures" in there.

Day 31 -- Bonus

Today I learned that I am rather tired of learning something new each day! lol  I think I'll take a few months and just let new information come to me naturally instead of going to look for it.

So looking for something new became somewhat of a chore.  This was kind of an interesting project.  I didn't know I could pick a lock! Good idea to give us quite a few items at once and then take a break!   Gerry

According to your lesson, I should have been hit by quite a few champagne corks.  I was bit by no less than 5 brown recluse spiders in the last 10 years.
My brother-in-law and HIS brother have both been struck by lightning.  Weird.

I thank you for all that you have learned because I have learned something new from you! This was great, but I am sure it has become tiresome! Enjoy not knowing for a while! Thanks for sharing! Have a Happy weekend!

Your a  brave soul, you stuck it out and learned something new each day. You made it easy for me, because I learned something new for each day from you LOL!
Yes, you do deserve a rest after this. Bet something new comes along all the time now that your not looking for it (winks). (Hugs) Indigo

Well I just learned something from you. Would you believe I didn't know what freecycling was? I do now and I do it and didn't know it. I just gave several nice pairs of shoes to John's ex d-i-l. Thanks, paula
