Another shooting........

Just saw this AOL News article -- Wisconsin Town Grieves Slain School Leader - AOL News.

On our local news this morning there was a report of a teen bringing a gun to school in Kentucky.  Thankfully he was caught before he got into the school.

They'll really have to do something about gun control your side of the pond, Lori. Dear me, how sad about the school principal.

So sad. Only in retrospect do we think we know what we would do to prevent this. The gun was locked. Still the kid got the gun. When there is anger and revenge on someone's mind and in their heart, it seems nothing will stop them from the outside except physical force. Kids have to feel like they are part of the team. One fifth grade teacher had an ice cream party at 6:30 last night for her Dream Team! On the bulletin board in their classroom were the pictures of each student, and a tshirt with a wish or a dream written by that student. The students, their parents, and other teachers who were involved with them (like me) were also invited to the after school social. They played music and talked. It was very nice. Clearly the students feel like there is more to this classroom than reading, writing, and math... there are life values being treasured and modeled in that room every day. I don't know the answers, but it has to start somewhere. Kids have to feel like they belong to someone in their peer groups. bea

I never heard of these problems when I was a kid. We all felt safe at school. Regards, Bill
