Evening At Home

We are back from dinner and are settling in for the evening.

We have plans to get away the first weekend in July, and that is our gift to ourselves this year.  (Of course all throughout the year we have a habit of wanting something, getting it, and then saying, this will be my anniversary present from you. lol)  We also got the kids some video games they'd been wanting (we always include them in that part of the anniversary celebration).  And Thomas sent me roses, as he always does.

Well, actually, he has sent or brought me roses every year except one, and that was the first one.  Our anniversary that year fell on a Monday or a Friday, I don't remember which one, but I do remember that we had just moved, and that Thomas was driving about 70 miles to work and back every day.  I wasn't working at the time, so we were very careful with money.  He had said something about getting me roses, and I'd told him not to, that we didn't need to spend that much money on flowers.

I fixed a really nice dinner, and we ate by candlelight.  We both dressed up very formally for dinner, and afterwards we danced in our living room by candlelight, too.

Well, although he didn't get me roses, as per my request, he just couldn't see not bringing me any flowers, so on his way home from work he stopped and picked some lillies growing wild by the side of the road.  He walked in with a huge bouquet of them, and I was so thrilled.  That meant more to me than the roses would have.  Even now, every June or late May when those particular lillies start to bloom I think about that.

Well, I had told that story to Eler Beth, so she secretly asked her Daddy to take her to pick some for me, and they did.  So now I have a pretty bouquet of lillies on my desk, and roses on my table.  I guess I need to get some pictures while they're fresh.  Somewhere I have pictures from that first anniversary.  I'll have to dig them out.  (See my scrapbooking is very erratic, and I have a lot of old photo albums that I need to re-do into nice, attractive scrapbooks.)

I want to thank everyone for their nice comments and emails.  I'm going to have Thomas read them all later.  Poor baby, he is knocked out on the couch right now.  (No, I didn't knock him out! lol That would have been a nice "happy anniversary" wouldn't it?)  These long hours are taking their toll, and usually he naps a bit right after dinner.  That's okay.  We'll finish our celebrations a little later when he's got his strength back! {wriggling eyebrows here} lol

Eler Beth is playing her nightly neighborhood game of freeze tag or hide 'n seek, I'm not sure which, and I can hear Andrew playing his keyboard.  So it's very quiet and peaceful right now.  No one asked, but if they had I'd have told them that giving Mom a little bit of uninterrupted time here at the computer this evening would be a great gift!  So I'm off to enjoy that gift for the next hour or so.

Later!

Loved the story of your first anniversary. If the lilies are orange, they are called Tiger Lily's they are my fav. flower. I have them growing on the other side of my porch so I can catch glimpses of them as they bloom. Now for the weird part Doc was married before and his wife passed away , 6 months before I met him. It was also her fav. flower. Glad to hear you had a wonderful dinner with the kids. (Hugs) Indigo
