A Little Ramble on a Sunday

The past week went by in rather a blur.  The kids were out of school on Monday for President's Day, then they had a half-day on Wednesday because of the ice storm coming into the area, and snow days on Thursday and Friday.  Do you know how hard it is to settle your home-schooled daughter down to doing school work when her friends and her big brother have a snow day?  It's virtually impossible.

Wednesday night I went with Thomas to a company dinner to honor the employees who had perfect attendance this year.  Thomas was one of the honorees.   I am very proud of him.  There were 33 this year with perfect attendance, out of around 700 employees.  One gentleman had had perfect attendance for 16 years!

It was nice to dress up and go out with Thomas to an adult-only function.  The place they rented was really lovely, one I'd never been to before.  The food was pretty good.  They gave away prizes to all the honorees, and these prizes varied from $500-, $200-, $50- and $25-gift certificates, on down to items like DVD players, fishing poles, binoculars, thermoses, etc.  There were three one-year parking spaces given away -- you can pick your spot at any of the company's parking lots and they'll put your name on it for a year.  Then there was one grand prize -- a 42" TV.  Thomas won one of the parking spaces!  He was okay with it, but if they'd drawn his name one time sooner he'd have gotten the ocean fishing pole, and if they'd drawn his name one time later he'd have gotten one of the $500.00 gift certificates.  Oh well!  We had a lot of fun.  He'll make the most of the parking space, though, and has picked one out that puts him quite a bit closer to the area where he works.

I have caught up on reading a lot of journals this weekend, but not all of them.  I'll try to catch up a little more this evening.  The kids went to a party last night -- a get-together for kids of various ages and their parents.  They had a good time.  Today Eler Beth is playing at her cousins' house and Andrew is getting ready to go to dodge ball.  Then he's spending the night at Jason's.  They had had plans to go to Nashville, where Jason's girlfriend lives, but those plans changed.

I need to get Eler Beth's lessons together for this week.  I think we have a bit more snow coming on Tuesday, but I'm hoping we're done with the ice and bad roads for the season.  I'm now ready for Spring.  Now that I've had my "pretty" snow I will now start complaining about wanting planting weather.  Just can't be happy, can I?

So, as you can see, nothing too awesome going on here.  I feel like I've been rather dull lately with nothing too interesting or funny to write about.  I'll try to make up for it soon, though!  I hope everyone is having a good weekend and that those who have been ill are feeling much better.

I think we are all in the same cold, icey boat just now.  Not a lot going on here either, but somehow we find a little time and energy to update.  ;)

That event sounds fun! I can't imagine having perfect attendance for a year, let alone 16 years!! WOW congrats to him!
Personally, I would rather have a great parking spot. That would be the perfect gift for me to win!
Have a good week,
Pam

Sounds like a fun night, it's nice like you say to go out and enjoy yourself with other adults. Hope the snow storms clear up soon.

Your daughter has an unusual name where does the "Eler" come from

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday

Well, in all, Thomas did well, although I can imagine something more tangible than a parkingspot would have gone down a lil better. Have a good week, Lori

Nothing wrong with a great parking spot -- except there goes the idea of parking far away to get a little extra exercise! Hope you have a great week Lori.

congratulations to thomas!  there is much to be said for a choice parking space - just ask all of us who try to get to work 20 minutes early to get one and can't seem to.  y'all stay warm during the snowy, cold weather and take care.

Your evening sounds nice, we all need nights like that once in a while.  Perfect attendance, that is something to be proud of ~ I don't think one person in our company has ever had perfect attendance!  I am not looking forward to more snow and/or ice...ugh...when is spring coming!!!!  Have a great week.

Congratulations to Thomas. Glad you two had a nice night out. My husband Mel had perfect attendance all twelve years of school and was never late. I have his certificate somewhere. Now me on the other hand (as you can tell by my grammar etc.) I missed school as often as I could.  Paula

Congratulations to Thomas and well done too.
Thomas and the other honourees, as well as the gentleman with 13 years attendance, obviously have strong constitutions so don't catch any of the bugs going around each winter.  I'll have some of that too please.   Lol!
Free parking with your name on it?  My that's grand.
I can imagine how difficult it was trying to teach Elerbeth at home when the others were forced home because of the ice-storm and snow.
I have daffodils and crocus flowering now as well as the heathers and primroses. Spring is poking her nose round the corner here in the English Lakes.  Even though we have frost this morning.  We have all been pleading for spring just like you so if you are moaning so are the rest of us.  lol!

I bet the dinner must have been fun!  A parking space is better than a sharp stick in the eye any day!  LOL

I give my homeschoolers snow days, too. :-)  They need days off just as much as their mama does!  I was so gladto finally be able to get onto your blog and catch up...dial up is SOOOO SLOW!  I have to click on your blog and then come back about fifteen minutes later and then read it. I can only make one comment, but I read everything!

love, Kas
