The Snow is Melting Under Bright Sunshine

We got about a foot of snow here in our area.  Our county and state road people seem to have done a pretty good job of keeping the main roads plowed and salted.  I went out with Thomas yesterday, and only our subdivision streets were bad -- and we didn't have any trouble in the four-wheel drive.

This afternoon I've been sitting here listening to chunks of snow sliding off the roof of the house.  There is still plenty of snow on the ground, but it has already melted down to 3 or 4 inches, except where it had drifted.  So now we'll have flooding to worry about, I'm sure.  They are expecting the Ohio River to rise quickly starting today.

Guess how Thomas has kept himself busy all weekend.  He has sharpened every knife in the house -- and that is quite a few knives.  He sharpened all of our hunting knives (about 8), all of his and the kid's pocket knives and collectible knives (around 30 all tolled), all of my kitchen knives  (I don't know how many, because he even got out knives that I rarely use!), and one large, deadly meat cleaver!  Poor thing, he ran out of knives at about noon this afternoon.   So he took a nap!

He's actually rather enjoyed himself I think.  Yesterday he took Eler Beth and three of her young cousins sledding at a place in town that is a favorite with the young people.  They played for a couple of hours and had a blast!  Her cousins had never been sledding before.

Andrew was supposed to work last night, but the electricity kept going off in part of the restaurant, so they closed early.  I have been reading, cooking, playing games with the kids, and reading journals.  I also enjoyed watching the dogs running around playing in the snow yesterday afteroon.  I guess all in all it's been a pretty good weekend.

I hope that everyone in the areas that got the blizzard and the 18 inches of snow are safe and warm and don't have to get out any time soon.  Have a great week everyone!

I hoped for only a foot of snow.  Unfortunately we were one of the places that got 20 inches.  Yesterday I was fine with it  Today....not so much!  I've had the kids out shoveling....and shoveling....and shoveling.  Getting off my street to work may be an adventure tomorrow!

Well enjoy the snow while it lasts. Well done to Thomas for sharpening all the knives in the house. Isn't that what you call 'living on edge' ? (bad pun, sorry).

At least your not completely trapped in by the snow, and sounds like you had a good weekend with the kids, all those knives wow well at least it's done.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday

I just knew Thomas would find something "constructive" to do....not a guy to sit around twiddling his thumbs ... NOT!!!! and we did ok with the snow...about 8 inches or so....but today alot of it is gone....sun is melting it fast....now if we don't get low temps and freeze tonight....back to school for everyone!!!  God Bless....hugs..Ora

Sometimes a snowed-in weekend can be one of the funnest and most comforting things to experience! I'm glad to hear that it sounds like your family enjoyed it as much as possible. It's only when you have to be out in it that it's no fun.

Stay warm!
Beth

I guess that is one good thing with a blizzard this time of year, it goes away much quicker!  I feel for ya with all that snow though...luckily we missed the snow.  It sounds like a fun weekend and you now have alot of sharp knives!! :)

Thomas is always so useful. He reminds me of Mel always doing something around the house to keep it up. I'll bet Thomas cleans his gun as soon as he gets home from hunting, huh? I was so shocked when I noticed John doesn't clean his rifle. lol Paula

Sharpened all the knives eh?  That's nothing - once I cleaned all the umbrellas.  Glad your snow isn't sticking around!  CATHY

Thank goodness the snow missed us in Kansas. Have a friend in Ohio and they got lots of snow. I don't like snow that much. We have had a lot of winter this year. Your husband sounds like mine. lol At least he stayed busy. :-) Hope you don't get flooding. Blessings, Janie

You reminded me of how much I used to enjoy snow when I was younger and my kids were little.  I get cold when it drops down in the 50's now.  brrrrrrrr   Anne
