I recently joined a group started by Monica and Martha under the journal name The Best I Can Be. There are several members, and each of us has some goal we're reaching toward -- better health, losing weight, quitting smoking, etc. The purpose of the journal is to provide each of us with some sense of being accountab to the others for working toward our goals and also for each of us to give encouragement to the others.
I am trying to lose 23 pounds by June 20, and so far I have lost 5. One of the group recently suggested a virtual walk, and I really liked the sound of it. Having a definite destination to reach, and being able to tick off each mile on the way there seemed like a neat way to give myself incentive to get out there and walk. Two members of the group are virtually walking toward one another and meeting at mid-point. Another is virtually walking to see her granddaughters. One of the fun things about doing this is getting to talk about what you "see" on your walk.
I am walking to my mother's house, and have made it through five of the 76 miles I'll need to go. If you'd like to read about what I've seen during my first 5 miles, you can do that here.
Oh yes, there are also some great recipes being shared in that journal!!

We can do it! You just reminded me, I haven't done an update over there in a while. I'll catch up again on the weekend. Have a great week! Martha :-)

IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT TO NOT GET AND STAY OVERWEIGHT.I AM NOT A DOCTOR, HOWEVER THEY SHOULD KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR US.
IN THE YEAR 1942 WHEN SIGNING UP FOR MILITARY SERVICE IN WORLD WAR 2 , WEIGHED 210 POUNDS, WENT DOWN TO 185 DURING THE TIME IN THE SOUTHWEST PACIFIC, THEN AFTER RETURNING GRADUALLY GAINED AS THE YEARS PASSED, ONCE GETTING UP TO 240 DURING THE 1980s, FINALLY LEARNED THAT IT WAS NOT 'WHAT' I WAS EATING THAT PUT ON WEIGHT, IT WAS THE 'AMOUNT' THAT WAS BEING EATEN.
EXERCISE AND WALKING ARE FINE, AND EATING LESS IS MORE EFFECTIVE AND CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED IN A DAY OR TWO.
SURE, IT TAKES SOME WILL POWER AND EXPERIMENTATION. IT IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL IF THEY SINCERELY WANT TO KEEP WEIGHT DOWN TO A DESIRED LEVEL.
WE WILL NOT DIE IF GOING 24 HOURS WITHOUT EATING. TRY IT. DRINK WATER. OATMEAL OR MALT-O-MEAL FOR BREAKFAST IS GOOD.
BANANAS CUT UP WITH MILK AND CEREAL IS HEALTHY. FRENCH TOAST WITH WHEAT BREAD.
NO ONE ASKED ME. WILL POWER AND HONESTY CAN DO IT FOR US. IT HAS FOR ME. STAY DOWN TO 204 EXCEPT FOR A COUPLE DAYS SUSTAINING A REFRAINING UNTIL THOSE BATHROOM SCALES READ 204. sam
5lb Is magic Lori. Well Done. Good Luck with the walk sounds like good fun. Love Pam xx
Good luck to yen sweetie! Phan
Good for you! I have a tactic that REALLY works. No pills. No diet. No weird anything. Ask me...;) C.
I am so behind in journal reading I can't take on any more. Lisa of Please Don't Take Life for Granted is having a very rough time right now and I am worried about her. Her journal has become such a big part of my life in journaling. I just have such an emotional reaction sometimes to journals I have to go slow in absorbing them. You have an upbeat cheerful personality I find soothing. I wish you well in your journal endeavors like The Best I Can Be. Gerry
These both sound like such clever, fun, motivating ideas. It sounds like you're doing great. Good luck with your goals.
Smiles, Leigh
I am so happy for you and for your friends being all you can be is a great way to live.
hugs
