We have seen signs bent and broken and trees down all over the place. I was surprised at how little damage to houses and vehicles I saw when I was out today. There are still many, many homes in our area without electricity, and in Louisville there are the most homes and businesses without power EVER, three times more than after the '74 tornado. Schools will be closed all week.
Restaurants are full -- the ones that are open, anyway --, all the local stores are out of ice -- the ones that are open, anyway --, and people are lined up to get gas because some stations aren't open, and the ones that are open are running out of gas.
The oldest steeple in nearby New Albany was just taken down to be repaired because of wind damage. Power lines are down everywhere across Metro Louisville, and the Kentucky National Guard has been called in to help.

Wow, what craziness. I guess a lot of us got a taste of Ike, didn't we?
Sadly, we had two men--father and son--lose their lives in northwest Indiana. They were trying to help some kids that were in danger, and the two men drowned. I haven't heard all the details yet.
Glad you guys are safe.

BUT, is the candy store open???? Talked to my friend Vivian and her power was restored mid-day. Anne
My word! I had no idea! Y'all are just about 2 hours north. Our neighbors lost part of a tree and we had to go around when we came upon a limb that took down a power line but that was the worst I saw.

Hard to believe such a big impact with so little overt damage.
Wow...didn't realize the effects were so far reaching.
Good luck. Hope things are back to normal soon.

that storm was a big one for sure!! I bet no one had any idea that the impact would be so great in your neck of the woods; glad you and your family weathered it relatively okay

Glad you and family are okay. My daughter and granddaughter escaped the Texas heat with no power today by going to her sister's and also my older granddaughter is in the same city in college so they can all have a nice visit and are not as far away from home as if they came here. Stay safe, Paula
Glad you and your family are doing alright. The way this storm has been so hit and miss is amazing. I am in Texas and barely got any rain in the DFW area. Go figure!

Quite a storm by the sound of it, but you're lucky you weren't in Galveston
i am glad that you are safe and sound. We have alot of damaged trees but nothing serious here in Northern Pa but boy did it blow hard here. I hope they get everything straightened out soon. ....hugs, Christine
Well thanks AOL. My alerts were NOT working for a couple of days I guess. I'm glad you guys are all OK. Ike really made a mess of things from Texas to Ohio. I pray for all those that have lost their homes and other things.
Hugs, Joyce
Stay safe!!!
God bless-
Amanda
